Sergei Rachmaninov |
I recently encountered Rachmaninov's symphonic poem depicting the Isle of the Dead, inspired by the paintings of the artist Arnold Bocklin. Rachmaninov's musical version is one of the most haunting and bone-chilling pieces I have ever heard. I won't say much about it, because it quite speaks for itself already. Have a listen. Also, enjoy the images in the two youtube videos; I believe they are two different versions which Bocklin painted, and it is very fascinating comparing them with the music.
